ChiMat Conference - Teenage Health

Overview

This workshop will provide critical insights into quality and character of current data concerning adolescent health. It will review the history of a publication – "Key Data on Adolescence", which is now in its 7th Edition. The workshop will explore some of the challenges involved in identifying data which can contribute to a comprehensive picture of adolescent health, and will discuss how these data can be of use to policy makers and practitioners.

The authors of Key Data have faced a number of obstacles in gaining access to relevant data, and have learnt a lot about how data are published and what choices are made by policy makers in terms of which health topics to concentrate on. It is our view that the data which are made available has an influence on the policy discourse, as well as impacting on the way adolescence is viewed by the general public. We will open up a debate on this topic as part of the workshop, and explore how to obtain a wider range of information on young people and their health, as such an initiative would provide better support to front line services.

Who should attend

Policy makers and practitioners with an interest in health related issues in adolescence.

Outcomes

At the end of the workshop delegates will have learnt more about the key health issues surrounding adolescence, trends in data available and potential challenges for the future. They will have gained a better understanding of how data are published and what choices are made by policy makers in terms of which health topics to concentrate on.
