Community Health Profiles

Health Profiles provide a snapshot of health for each local council in England using key health indicators, which enables comparison locally, regionally and over time. Indicators for maternity and child health include: Children in poverty; GCSE achievement; Smoking in pregnancy; Breast feeding initiation; Physically active children; Obese children; Children's tooth decay; Teenage pregnancy; Under-15s "not in good health" and Infant deaths.

Contraception and Sexual Health

Presents the results of the module of questions on contraception and sexual health included on the National Statistics Omnibus Survey. General Household Survey (GHS)

The General Household Survey (GHS) is a multi-purpose continuous survey which collects information from people living in private households in Great Britain. The survey started in 1971 and has been carried out almost continuously since then. The main aim of the survey is to collect data on a range of core topics, comprising: household and family information; housing tenure and household accommodation; consumer durables including vehicle ownership; employment; education; health and use of health services; smoking and drinking; family information including marriage, cohabitation and fertility; income; demographic information about household members including migration.

Health Poverty Index (HPI)

The Health Poverty Index (HPI) is a web-based tool which allows groups, differentiated by geography and cultural identity, to be contrasted in terms of their 'health poverty' which is their present state of health and future health potential. The HPI tool provides a single visual summary of a large range of indicators which may provide some bearing on future health in an area. The indicators are presented under three main headings - root causes, intervening factors and situation of health - which are then sub-divided based on the geographical scale at which they tend to operate which are regional, local, individual.

iView ChiMat - Workforce

The Workforce data provides access to Strategic Health Authority, Primary Care Trust and Trust level data on NHS staff working in child and maternal health. Ophthalmic Data

The objective of the General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) is to provide, through community opticians' practices, preventative and corrective eye care for children, people aged 60 and over, people on low incomes, and those suffering from or pre-disposed to eye disease. The statistics are derived from data provided by Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) in England and Local Health Boards (LHBs) in Wales, which contract with ophthalmic practitioners to provide NHS sight tests and optical vouchers.

Sexual health balanced scorecard

The sexual health balanced scorecard website is designed to support sexual health and teenage pregnancy leads in decisions regarding where to target resources. provides a snapshot of sexual health for each Primary Care Trust in England. Interactive maps and charts enable comparisons to be made regionally and nationally across a range of indicators relating to teenage pregnancy, abortions, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and other relevant issues. This toolkit is supported as best practice by the Department of Health and the aim is to provide a key source of sexual health information for public health, commissioning and performance management colleagues at a local, regional and national level.

Social Services Expenditure

Since 2004-05 this return has been the responsibility of the Information Centre for Health and Social Care. Systems Model for Planning Age Appropriate Environments

The Systems Planning Model has been designed to help areas to be ready for the implementation of the duty to provide an ‘Age Appropriate Environment’. The model is aimed at Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS) commissioners, providers, planners and analysts. Teenage Pregnancy Ward Level Interactive Mapping Tool

EMPHO has produced interactive maps for Ward level data showing whether the conception rate in each Ward is significantly different to the England rate. These maps use the data for the 3-year periods 2000-2002, 2001-2003, 2002-2004 and 2003-2005 and a map has been produced for each of the nine Government Office regions within England.
