About Children's Services Mapping
Children's Services Mapping is an on-line data collection and reporting system that provides information at a national, regional and local level about child and maternity service provision and investment in England. Over 3,000 services have been mapped providing a rich profile of national provision.
Data is collected through an annual exercise completed by NHS trusts, PCTs and Local Authorities (from November 2008). The overall aim of the exercise is to provide a description of services that come under the umbrella of the new children's trusts.
Purposes of the mapping include:
- Contributing to the monitoring of progress in the implementation of the Every Child Matters, Children's Plan, Children's NSF and related agendas
- Supporting the development of joint commissioning strategies, service planning and Comprehensive Area Assessments (CAA)
- Performance monitoring
- Benchmarking and providing annual updates for the development and maintenance of local service directories
The results are posted on the Children's Services Mapping website and provide a valuable resource for managers, clinicians, commissioners and policy makers to help inform decisions about the development of children's services on a regular basis.
