Description:
The researchers set out to discover if the changes brought about in the anatomy and function of the brain persist after music training stops. They measured auditory brainstem responses in a cohort of healthy young adults with varying amounts of past musical training and showed that adults who received formal music instruction as children have more robust brainstem responses to sound than their peers who never participated in music lessons. They also found that the magnitude of the response correlated with how recently training ceased.
