Youth Justice

The Youth Justice hub supports the effective commissioning and delivery of services for children and young people (and their families) whose behaviour puts them in contact or at risk of contact with the youth justice system.

The Youth Justice Liaison and Diversion section of our site supports the Youth Justice Liaison and Diversion pathfinders and others working with children and young people whose behaviour puts them in contact or at risk of contact with the youth justice system.

Developed by the Department of Health and the Centre for Mental Health, the YJLD practical toolkit guides pathfinders and others through the stages of developing sustainable youth justice and liaison services and providing evidence of their success.

This toolkit helps with the planning, commissioning and writing of health and well-being needs assessments for use across the youth justice system (YJS), in both community and secure settings.

CHAT: Young People in the Secure Estate going live: The Comprehensive Health Assessment Tool (CHAT) is now being rolled out across the secure estate. A version for use in the community will be available soon.

The toolkit has been developed by the Department of Health as part of the Healthy children safer communities cross-government strategy and its commitment to strengthen the commissioning of health services for children and young people in contact with the YJS, drawing on the best available evidence.
